Guitar Lessons For Beginners Inspired By The Words Of Julie Andrews

It isn’t often that you hear guitar lessons for beginners and Julie Andrews in the same sentence, but now you have.  Are you staring and thinking, “What?”  If you are that is okay because I’m going to explain it all to you and then you’ll have a great “aha” moment and it will all make perfect sense.

“Let’s start at the very beginning.”
They say that the beginning is a very good place to start so here it goes.  According to Julie, “When you talk you begin with A, B, C.  When you sing you begin with do, re, mi.”  Well that got me thinking.  Where do you begin when you want to take guitar lessons?  You begin with 1, 2, 3 things – a guitar, a great lesson plan, and a burning desire to learn how to play guitar.  I’m still trying to figure out how to get the rhyme down so we can add it to the classic.  Maybe then I’ll have Julie Andrews record it while I accompany her with the guitar.  Sound good?  It should.  Everybody has the ability to follow those three easy steps to make their dreams of playing guitar start to happen.

Step number one:  the guitar
Your relationship with your guitar is an important one.  The guitar doesn’t need to cost a lot or be embellished with gems to make it special.  What makes it special is your relationship with it.  The guitar you learn to play on will always be a classic, even if it is tattered, a bit out of tune, and on its last useful leg.  I do recommend making sure it is in tune though or you’ll start thinking it is you and not the guitar itself that sound terrible.  I can seriously see me dancing through a meadow strumming my guitar while Julie is singing her wonderful songs out in the wide open air.

Step number two:  a great lesson plan
There are some incredible ways to learn how to play guitar that work for everybody who is interested in guitar lessons.  My two favorite ways are online video courses and DVD’s.  That way I have no reason to not do my lesson.  It helps that I always want to take my lessons and learn something new on the guitar.  But no excuses also means that you can’t say you are too busy with work, the weather is bad, you are too poor, etc.  Every person gets home for the day at some point and the weather is absolutely irrelevant to learning the guitar (when you start performing that is a different matter, but your manager will tend to it for you).  Julie would be very proud of my commitment if she was my nanny.  I wonder if she’s available – I could use a good nanny.

Step number three:  a burning desire
Burning desire sounds more Elvis related, but Julie certainly must have it too – just because I say so.  It really is simple.  If you want to learn how to play the guitar you can.  Most everybody has thought about it at one time or another.  In the end the only thing that has really held them back was a lack of desire.  Are you that person?  I don’t think you are.  I don’t believe you want to be known as the one who will never do anything fun or chase their dreams.  Let me know if you need a spoon full of sugar to help that medicine go down.

So, as you see, the hills are alive with the sound of music.  Only this time it is coming from your guitar.  Julie Andrews is clapping along and singing a great song.  I heard she was even thinking about going modern and possibly singing some Colbie Caillat.  I’ll be the guitar part of it all – something Colbie does quite well.  So, next time you wonder if it is possible to learn and play the guitar just remember that it is.  You just need to start at the very beginning, which is guitar lessons for beginners!
