Beginner Guitar Lessons

Beginner Guitar Lessons Were Just The Start Now, I’ll Be Playing ‘Til The End

Beginner guitar lessons made the bad become one of the best things that ever happened to me.  I love to be active and am a rock climber.  Unfortunately, one day I had a “mishap”.  That’s what I call it because the entire situation still annoys me.  I broke my leg in three places and went from constantly on the go to constantly at home.  I wasn’t happy and my attitude was getting a bit poor.  My girlfriend told me that I had better find something to do because she was sick of my pouting.  I grumbled and mumbled for a bit, but realized she was right.  I did need a positive distraction to make me forget about the big cast on my leg that felt like it was an itchy five hundred pound piece of cement.  I was using my stumble feature to jump me from website to website and stumbled across an interesting idea – guitar lessons from home.  I started to investigate.

The investigation:
I was amazed to find out how many lesson options were out there.  They all had claims of being the best and easiest to learn from.  There were programs for every type of guitar imaginable too.  I’d always been a blues fan so I started to check that out.  I listened to what some of the different types of guitars sounded like and decided to learn to play on the steel-string guitar (which is also called a flat-top guitar).  I found a great program that would get me started on lessons to occupy my time.  That night my girlfriend drove me down to the music shop and I found a used steel-string guitar.  I had already downloaded the lessons and learned how to use the software so I was set to go.  My girlfriend was happy, I wasn’t pouting, and in less than twelve hours I had stumbled upon a new endeavor to face.

The lessons:
The lessons themselves were so easy to understand and pretty interesting too.  It was like combining a rockumentary with music class.  When I was in school I would have probably learned a lot more if they held classes in this format.  There was no spacing out, pencil tapping, or waiting for the end.  I was completely fascinated with the information and learning all the basics about guitar.  I learned how to hold the guitar, some chords, and information on what makes a steel guitar sound the way it does.  Who would have guessed that it had a reinforced neck that is narrow to support the structure of it?  I wouldn’t have.  I had always been kind of a night own so I stayed up and took a lesson, would practice, and then start another.  By the time five hours had passed I had learned six chords and my first song – BB King’s Rock Me Baby.  I was feeling pretty good and pretty exhausted.

The next day and the next and the next:

My girlfriend came over to visit in the morning and she was pretty impressed with the song, but even happier with my attitude.  She said I even had some spark back in my eyes and she loved it.  Over the next month I kept playing a lot.  My guitar lessons filled up the couple hours each day that had been usually spent being outdoors.  When it was time to get my cast off I was thrilled, but a little bummed that I probably wouldn’t get as much time with my guitar.  Then the perfect solution came to me – I could do both.  When I went camping my guitar could come along with me.  At home, I could sit out on the porch and play it.  I had options and I really had grown to love playing the guitar.  It was pretty cool and a great way for me to unwind and calm down at the same time.

Now, I play my guitar almost every day and I love it.  I’ve gotten pretty good and am not considered a beginner anymore.  I have even started to be a “little thankful” for my broken leg because it turned me onto something great.  That’s how I know that beginner guitar lessons were the start and not the end of my musical adventure.
