Guitar Books For Beginners: “I’m Hooked On The Books”

Guitar books for beginners are the one and only reason that I learned how to play guitar.  You see, I’m wrapped up in the modern age, just like many people are.  Every day when I’m at work I am on my computer constantly – email, research, internet.  That makes me less than eager to pay a lot of attention to my computer once I’m home.  I had always wanted to take guitar lessons, but could never find an instructor to go to that fit into my schedule and didn’t want to take my lessons from the computer screen.  I wanted to take lessons on my own time and wherever I chose.  The best solution was investing the books that taught you how to play guitar.

The decision process
After checking out all the books on guitar lessons available for me to purchase I saw that I had to come up with some criteria to narrow down my choices.  Wow!  There are a lot of books out there.  The best way for me to do that comparison was on the internet, oddly enough.  I could find the information and reviews the most quickly that way.  I had chosen to play the guitar over all other instruments because it is a part of every culture around the world in some capacity.  They may choose to call it a guitarra, gitarre, guitar, or sihtar, but is all the same. It was good to know all the name variations for my research because there were some great options out there that used those phrases interchangeably.  In the end, my criteria ended up being:
* The use of simple terms
* How many lessons were in the book
* Diagrams were a must
* I wanted an accompanying CD to listen to
* Have a few songs in there
* Teach me how to read music too
After I researched the most popular and highly recommended books that fit my criteria I easily found a great book to get me started.

My book made learning easy
I happened to have a few days that I needed to take off of work before I lost them so I took them off and made no other plans, except for to play guitar during the day.  My family was not around because of work and school.  So day time was literally play time for me for two straight days – I hadn’t taken some time for myself like that in a long time.  It sure was worth it.  I made my travelling guitar lessons take me to a new level.  I followed my book and read the lessons, practiced what they told me to do, and listened to how it should sound.  With my criteria all being met I found success in those first two days.  I’d learned some basic chords and got to practice enough.  On the second night I held a little concert for my family and they all cheered me on.  My kids thought it was pretty cool I’d learned to play and even said I was kind of like some old guitar person (I frowned at the old, but liked that I could be related to something they thought was somewhat cool).

Keeping the lessons going

After a month I was ready for my next book.  I’d found some time to play, if even for only 15 minutes, most every day.  It was great and my family thought it was awesome that I was taking some time for myself.  They said it made me in a better mood and more relaxed.  Sometimes my kids encouraged me to go play more – suspicious!  Now, I have a total of 12 books and usually purchase a new one about once a month.  It is great.  Better yet, the same criteria I set up for myself at the beginning hold true for each and every book.  I know how to play over 30 songs by heart and read the music for many others.

It is official and most definitely true.  I am hooked on the books.  There is no better way out there to learn guitar than to buy guitar books for beginners.
